FREE 'NO-WRITING' STORYTELLING WORKSHOP

For Would-Be Game Facilitators & Volunteers

The Story Sharing Game Creator is offering her Magician's Workshop on a limited basis to adults and older teens who want to facilitate Story Sharing Game groups* or otherwise volunteer to help develop and promote the Game.

(*The play groups could be pulled together by the facilitator from people they know or be individuals signing up through Catering2Us.)

"I'm looking to collaborate with people who can 'think from the end'. Those who, after reviewing the Story Sharing Game, can envision beyond the detailed lessons of the game and imagine, if widely played, the transformative impact  a free  online  communications game --- one that can be played at home and that promotes individual self-development and creative skills in an intergenera-tional group setting --- could have on working families and communities.

The Story Sharing Game is self-guiding with downloadable PDF lessons.  Although people can take up the Game on their own, and learn it is as they go through the lessons, it will enhance their experience and confidence, as well as help spark initial interest, to be led by a facilitator who has an overview of the Game and its goals.   Once the facili-tator has led a group through the Game's lessons, the ideal will then be for players to rotate facilitation each Game session.

Teaching people to play the Story Sharing Game is to teach them to look at memory as a journey they've already taken -- but have yet to receive the full benefits of.  The Game's fun exercises and creative challenges will show them how to revisit small moments from their life to extract surprising  lessons and revelations that -- in addition to helping them come up with engaging short stories -- will equip them to better cope with today and grow into tomorrow.

Thinking from the end is imagining that adults and teens who become more thoughtful and committed StoryTellers through the Game might one day become filmmakers, playwrights, cartoonists, and novelists, or use their enhanced storytelling abilities to become champions and  leaders  in  government,

business, or any other endeavor they take on.

If you can see these ends as an awesome goal, you are invited to invest your time and ideas in our beginning as we introduce the Story Sharing Game to Brooklyn (and the world!)  by actually helping people try the Game out and give their feedback.

I look forward to seeing you materialize at a Magician's Workshop!  Come experience a taste of the chal-lenges, strategy, and humanistic spirit behind the Game, while sharing your  own perspectives and ideas."   - Trayce

AT YOUR CONVENIENCE

Zoom Workshops

-  Be part of a platform for critical discussion and brainstorming  about how to support the human-centered development of working people -- and not have to have a lot of credentials to be respected for your experiences and ideas.   (Or apply the credentials you have to a unique grassroots approach.)

- Personal joy that comes from  introducing others to positive new experiences.

-  Acquire new communication skills and tools that can help you in your own life better organize your ideas and make  engaging presentations, while putting skills you already have to use in rewarding new ways.

-  Love history and doing research? Or analyzing the storylines of films (to the point of annoying other people)?  Channel that love of understanding story to documenting your own life and that of your peers.

- Fancy yourself an amateur psychologist, keen on the little things that people say and do that give away their inner lives?   The Game will enhance your understand-ing of human behavior and how to talk about it; how our routines  and every day choices reveal who we are.

-  Like to do puzzles or games that require 'cognitive skills'?  (The core skills your brain uses to think, read, learn, remember, reason, problem solve, and visually process !)  You’ll use all those skills in the Game.

- You’ll be able to promote your other creative and educational activities and interests to players and through the Catering2Us platform.

- Help imagine future growth for the Story Sharing Game -- such as  a cadre of facilitators who for a small fee, or paid by a grant, can lead a group through the Game's lessons.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE AS A GROUP LEADER

Any type of group from classrooms of students to church study groups.  You could have experience as a workplace supervisor; book club organizer;  group therapist; sports coach; or a school crossing guard.  It's important that you want to draw out the dynamism of a group and are comfortable being a strategic yet-laid-back guide.

 ENJOY WORDS & READING

Great if you enjoying writing and are an accomplished storyteller; but it's not necessary.   You will lead players through a reading aloud of the Story Sharing Game Lessons and do exercises as one of them.

AVAILABILITY â€‹

If after taking the Magician's Workshop you want to proceed, you should have the ability to volunteer approximately (2)  hours per week (flexible times) for (3) months. After the workshop there will be (4) sessions going through the Game's lessons, followed by at least (4) sessions of you leading a group (2-4 players) through the lessons.

RESPECT THE RULES & TIME LIMITS OF THE GAME

It's a storytelling game -- but because of the rules and time limits it's also a listening and communication game that teaches players the value of incubating ideas. After playing the Game,  your own ideas on how to improve the Game will be welcomed.

WILLING TO GIVE PUBLIC FEEDBACK ON GAME  â€‹

Your written comments will be posted on the Catering2Us site and social media, and you will be interviewed on at least one podcast.

Catering2Us is a project of  Brooklyn Young Filmmakers,

a volunteer-run non-profit that in recent years, with a tiny board,

has been underground developing online education content.

The  Magician's Workshop

"I was apprehensive going in: Do I have any good stories to tell? Does anyone want to hear them? The workshop direct-ly engaged with these kinds of doubts. By the end, I was a lot more confident in being able to tell my story.  Even more, I was excited about the processes the work-shop introduced to tell the story in an expressive and per-sonal way."  - Tom,

front-end developer for the NYC Parks’ website

WORKSHOP MEDITATIONS

"This workshop helped me transform an old memory.  Rather than just seeing it as a memory, I'm able to see it as a story with an arc and layers -- as a journey." - Adonis Williams, Filmmaker  (Writer / Director / Editor)

"I know my story is not unique.  At conferences I've heard other black women lawyers who also worked at conservative Wall Street law firms tell stories like mine.  We suffer alone, and ultimately we leave because it's so brutal.    But, no, I've not read anyone's memoirs talking about it."                                                                - KL, Lawyer

Is it easy to imagine if you tell stories about your own life

that it will interest people who don’t know you?

"No!  I believe it’s a challenge for me.  It requires me to explain in words things that make sense to me.  To welcome someone to my inner world of experience, that might be hard to verbalize.  If I write about my experience, I want you to feel what I am feeling.”   - Piotr (Peter) Nowotnik,  Composer / Musician / Teacher
