About the event
To warm you up and start to create a team environment, we’ll play the Story Sharing Game, in which players share little personal stories. Then we’ll take one of the stories and as a writing team start to turn it into a short script. You’ll be introduced to:
- Proper script format and why it’s formatted like it is
- Benefit of visually listing and diagraming story ideas
- Using concept, theme, and genre to help guide the story
- Three act structure: beginning, middle, and end
- Character development and how a vivid backstory helps
- Importance of motivation, need, conflict, and resolution
- Creating realistic dialogue (and why it’s not really realistic)
- Writing ‘visually’ using location, props, wardrobe to advance story
- Value of research and pulling from real life
