WHAT IS A COLLAGE ?
​
Collage is an art where you can make your own unique picture -- and convey a story, message, mood, or style -- by combining random pieces of different things and cut and pasting them to a surface. You can incorporate your own drawing and painting into it if you want, but you don't have to. You can also make collages on a computer -- a glue-less cut and paste of images to make one picture -- which is what I now do.

ALERT: If you don't do much on computers, making a digital collage is not as difficult to learn how to do as you fear ! I use simple programs -- Word and PowerPoint, and after learning a few steps you can do it too !
WHY I LOVE MAKING COLLAGES !

​I see pictures in my mind – but I’m not great or patient with drawing.

I can grab an image of anything in the world and start playing with it !

It's cheap, doesn't take up a lot of space or make a big mess

​​It’s fun – constructing my own puzzle, fitting little pieces together while I imagine the picture they're going to make.​

​I love the challenge of creating a detailed, layered story in one collage -- one frame -- for people to discover.

I can escape from my thoughts by expressing in a wordless way my mood (though I can put words into my collage).

​I can be inspired by a picture I see and set out to make something similar --- but because I use found, inexact pieces to imitate what I've seen -- as I work the picture I want to do ends up changing in my imagination. It becomes new and different from what inspired me.

It’s a weird, personal, and totally unique creation I can gift to others.
